The survey data also sheds light on gender dynamics within cannabis consumption. Among adults over 45, men are more likely to use cannabis daily than women. However, this gender difference is not observed in younger adults. Such insights are crucial for tailoring public health messages and interventions.

The Risk of Dependence

Frequent cannabis use raises concerns about potential dependence. Studies suggest that a considerable percentage of daily cannabis consumers may be at risk of developing a cannabis use disorder. This highlights the need for awareness and education on responsible consumption.

Legal Markets and Consumer Choices

The legal cannabis market in Canada has seen a steady increase in household spending, while expenditures on illicit cannabis have decreased. Consumers cite product safety as the primary reason for choosing legal sources, followed by convenience and adherence to the law. The legal market’s growth reflects changing attitudes and increased trust in regulated products.
